Do you ever get Ethel back Xenoblade? ›

Ethel is temporarily recruited as a Hero after completing the Hero Quest No Want of Courage, but cannot be used after the party leaves Colony 4. For Ethel to rejoin the party, a member of the party must reach rank 10 with the Flash Fencer and Seraph classes.

Xenoblade Chronicles has a significant amount of missable content. Most of this is because the game has several areas that cannot be revisited past certain points in the story, but there are also many quests that have a choice of which branch to complete, or that are mutually-exclusive with each other.

Making Ethel rejoin

The pre-requisites to unlock Seraph are story-related, but the unlock mission itself is still optional. After that, you'll want to go to the lab on the back of the colony where you started the Seraph unlock mission. You'll be given a choice, with one of the options making Ethel rejoin.

In order to get the classes to be upgraded to go past level 10, each hero requires you to do a side quest with the hero in question, but Ethel's sidequest has someone else instead. 2 people in the party die and you can revive Ethel and get her back later in the game.
